Vintage Azilal Rug / 240 x 144 cm
This vintage Azilal rug is a refined expression of minimalism, where repetition, geometry and subtle color accents come together in perfect balance.
The composition is structured around a continuous lattice of lozenges, an interconnected web of diamonds flowing seamlessly across the field. This rhythmic net is occasionally interrupted by horizontal accent lines in red and blue, grounding the design and suggesting thresholds or transitions. Along the upper border, small abstract figures and colorful talismanic motifs break the uniformity, infusing the rug with playfulness and individuality.
At the heart of the design lies the lozenge motif, one of the most ancient Amazigh symbols. It embodies protection, fertility and the feminine principle, while its endless repetition forms a symbolic shield of continuity and interconnectedness. The scattered border motifs act as guardians, while the colored dividing lines hint at life’s passages, marking both order and transformation.
The palette is restrained yet deeply evocative. A luminous ivory wool ground holds the warm brown lattice, with subtle yet striking touches of red, blue, and yellow woven into the borders and accent lines. The result is an elegant and timeless piece, where purity of form meets symbolic depth.
