Vintage Aït Bou Ichaouen Rug / 430 x 169 cm
This expressive vintage rug from the Aït Bou Ichaouen tribe tells a story woven in rhythm and abstraction. The tale opens with floating shapes in shifting tones of silver grey, drifting across a warm carmine red field.
As the story unfolds, the composition shifts into a freeform network of lozenges, no two alike, each pulsing with its own energy. Knotted in charcoal, ivory, and soft greys, the motifs are punctuated by unexpected bursts of burnt orange, purple, deep forest green, indigo, and playful flashes of hot pink.
A completely abstract and improvisational work, this piece is pure Amazigh artistry, raw, symbolic, and wildly expressive. The medium pile and soft wool ground it in tactile warmth, while the spontaneous geometry elevates it to the realm of floor-bound art.
Finished with a flatweave band and short fringes, this rug stands as a remarkable fusion of tradition and creative freedom.
