Vintage Beni Ouarain / 345 x 180 cm
A more unusual patterned vintage Beni Ouarain with a background in natural ivory, shifting gently to a light beige hue as the light moves across its soft pile. The darker patterns subtly emerge from beneath the higher ivory wool, revealing only a faint network of small lozenges that appear to hold dotted motifs. But turn the rug over, and a new story unfolds.
On the reversed side, the intricacy of the composition becomes clear, an intentional maze of detours, checkered latticework and variation. The weaver plays with structure, introducing purposeful irregularities and subtle shifts in tone, from warm brown and deep red at the beginning, moving into charcoal and black. The vertical borders are adorned with a refined fishbone motif, while the selvedges are edged in a taupe and charcoal melange. Finished with a flatweave band and braided tassels, this piece is a quiet yet masterful expression of tribal artistry.
