Vintage Beni Ouarain Rug | 380 x 188 cm
A vintage Beni Ouarain that reads like a tribal manuscript, rich in detail and woven with intention. The field, a soft ivory wool with a gentle oat glow, becomes the parchment on which the weaver tells a complex and heartfelt story.
Across this textured surface, a loosely connected network of lozenges unfolds, interspersed with a vivid variety of Berber symbols. Hues of charcoal, carmine red, and burnt orange give voice to the motifs, appearing almost like markings on a decorated map. Three six-pointed stars, drawn in fine lines, quietly suggest a Jewish heritage, a rare and meaningful gesture within the weaving tradition.
Arrows flank both sides of the rug in rhythmic repetition of the same tri-tone palette, while darker edges gently ground the composition. Finished with a flatweave band and long, twirled fringes, this piece is as rich in symbolism as it is in texture. The carefully placed details reflect the personal devotion of its maker, each knot carrying a whisper of memory.
Hand-knotted in soft wool, this medium-pile rug is a tactile treasure of both artistic and cultural significance.
