Vintage Beni Ouarain Rug | 444 x 194 cm

A rare and generous older vintage Beni Ouarain, gracefully aged and quietly magnificent. The surface reveals a luminous background in natural wool, with a gentle sheen that catches the light, a sign of its quality and time-worn beauty.

This rug tells a deeply detailed tale, its narrative carried through a network of miniature lozenges filled with an expressive array of Berber symbols. There’s a rhythmic flow to their placement, yet intentional irregularities at both beginning and end hint at a personal, layered story only partially revealed.

Unusually, the weaver used wool dyed in saffron yellow with touches of dark orange to draw the motifs, softening their definition, as if the symbols are speaking in whispers, inviting the viewer to look again. The backside unveils the astounding intricacy of the craftsmanship.

Edged with taupe-toned borders and beautifully finished with a flatweave band on both ends, adorned with checkered tufting and long, old-school braided tassels. Knotted in very soft wool with a low to medium pile.
